Cornell University InterFraternity Council (IFC)
The Award Winning Governing Body of Cornell's Fraternity System

Welcome to the Home of the Cornell University InterFraternity Council (IFC). The goal of the IFC is to promote the welfare of its member fraternity chapters within the University. Its assistance takes the form of a common governing council, in which the member chapters collectively assemble and discuss issues affecting the Fraternity and Greek System as a whole.

The IFC meets every Wednesday during the academic year in the Williard Straight Hall Memorial Room. Each member chapter is required to send a representative. At each meeting, each of the executive officers gives his report on any issues that have arisen within the past week, and updates the council as to any progress he has made in furthering the agenda and goals he has set forth at the beginning of his term. Later, each chapter is required to vote on any initiatives which seek to better the welfare of the member chapters.

The council's primary concern is the safety, security, and advancement of each member fraternity house. To that end, the IFC works very closely with the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Affairs (OFSA) in maintaining strict guidelines for chapter behavior. These guidelines restrict social behavior, recruitment practices, new member education, and other issues at the forefront of fraternity life. Furthermore, these guidelines are enforced by the mediating IFC Judicial Board, which is chaired by the VP for Judicial Affairs and recommends proper penalties and sanctions to the OFSA for member chapter infractions.

Sanctions and supervision are not the sole role of the InterFraternity Council, however. The IFC VP for University and Community Relations is very influential in promoting member chapter involvement in philanthropic and service activities. The VP for Programming organizes "Greek Week" in the Fall, which orients freshmen to the Greek System. Likewise, the IFC is extremely influential in promoting new membership, as the VP for Recruitment organizes a huge rush process involving thousands of current Greek members and Freshmen. The VP for Communications, moreover, is responsible for conveying the message of the Greek System to the surrounding Cornell community by contributing weekly to the school newspaper and maintaining the council's website. The IFC Vice President for Finance makes sure that all member chapters are in good financial standing, and in this way maintains the economic well being of the Greek system. Furthermore, the IFC with the guide of the Executive Vice President organizes the annual Greek Awards, A.D. White Leadership Conference, and Faculty Appreciation Day.

All under the guide of the IFC President, the entire council works tirelessly and endlessly to better the fraternity system at Cornell. Working together with the chapters, the other councils, and the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Affairs, the IFC has helped make the Cornell Greek system one of the biggest and most successful of its kind in the nation. With the continued support of the University, the community, and the student body, the IFC hopes to continue to assure that the Greek system is safe, secure, and successful well into the 21st Century.
